Un día de pruebas

El miércoles recibí un mensaje de texto, fin de semana Triumph de puertas abiertas…  Pues habrá que hacer alguna prueba.

Salimos pronto por la mañana con un día maravilloso, teníamos unos 50 minutos antes de llegar allí, el calentamiento. Había bastante gente y después de un rato nos dieron las llaves para probar las primeras motos, una Daytona 676 y una Speed Triple. Salimos sin tener mucha idea de dónde ir; por suerte tomamos una carretera muy divertida con bastantes curvas, después no tuvimos tanta suerte y nos metimos por una carretera bastante mala.

On Wednesday I received a text, Triumph demo day… So we’d have to test some models.

We left early in the morning in a lovely day, we had 50 minutes prior to arrive, the warm up. There was lot of people and after a while we got the keys to test the first bikes, a Daytona 676 and a Speed Triple. We left without much idea of where to go, luckily we found a fun curvy road, later on we weren’t so lucky and got to a really bad road.

 Una vez entregadas las motos y después de comprarme unos guantes de verano, era el momento de la segunda prueba, una Tiger 800 y una Street Triple. Repetimos la carretera de la primera prueba y luego probamos con otra que tampoco estuvo mal.

Once we returned the bikes and alter buying myself some summer gloves, was the time for the second test, a Tiger 800 and a Street Triple. We did again the same road as the first test and then tried another one that wasn’t bad either.

Las motos? Pues la Daytona me encantó, si pudiera tenerla como segunda moto, sin duda me encantaría aunque necesitase unas muñecas nuevas… Acelera muy bien, sube de revoluciones que da gusto; frena a las mil maravillas, paso por curva increíble, da calor pero nada comparado con la RSV (la otra deportiva que he probado). En serio, de todas las motos que he probado hasta ahora es la única que realmente quiero.

La Tiger me pareció muy cómoda, se puede ir rápido con ella pero no lo pide; frenar y acelerar lo hace bien, pero probarla justo después de haberlo hecho con la Daytona pues parece que no… A pesar de parecer muy grande me resultaba bastante sencillo llegar al suelo y no se la notaba nada pesada.

The bikes? I loved the Daytona, if I could have it as second bike, no doubt I’d do it although I’d need new wrists… Accelerates really good, it revs up lovely; it brakes wonderfully, takes corners like on rails, its hot but nothing like the RSV (the other Sports bike I’ve tested). Seriously, of every bike I’ve tried until now is the only one I really want.

The Tiger was very comfortable, you can go fast with it but it doesn’t ask for it; brakes and accelerates good, but testing it right after the Daytona it doesn’t seem to do so… Even though it looks quite big it was really easy to get to the ground with my foot and didn’t feel heavy.

Después de comer y un poco de turismo por Worthing, nos volvimos para casa.

After lunch and a bit of tourism in Worthing, was time to go back home.

Goodwood Moving Motor Show

De nuevo me volví a enterar de este evento gracias a la gente del foro de la SV. Daban entradas gratis en el Telegraph así que antes de que se acabaran pedí dos.

No quedaba lejos de casa y había posibilidad de ir por carreteras secundarias de esas que tanto me gustan. Salí pronto por la mañana y aunque me perdí un poco a las 8 estaba allí.

Fui directo a ver las motos y aún no había mucho movimiento. Después de dar una vuelta y ver unos cuantos coches regresé para ver detenidamente que había.

Again I knew about this event thanks to the kind people of the SV org. Telegraph was giving away free tickets so before they run out I ordered two.

It wasn’t far from home and there was the chance of going on secondary road those I like so much. I left early in the morning and even I got a bit lost I was there at 8.

I went straight to see the bikes and there wasn’t much. After walk around and see some cars I went back to see properly what was going on.

Lo más especial de todo fueron un par de motos con motores de helicóptero con unos 400 cv y la nueva KTM. También gravé unos videos para oír como sonaban.

The most special of all was a couple of motorbikes with jet engine with around 400 bhp and the new KTM. I also recorded some videos to hear how they sound.

Había muchos muchos coches e hice en torno a 300 fotos. Me pasé el día caminando y aunque no lo planee bien (tenía que haber reservado pruebas al llegar) me lo pase muy bien. De camino a casa me volví a perder, pero esta vez queriendo…

There were lots and lots of cars and i made around 300 photos. I spent the day waking and even though I didn’t planned it properly (should have booked experiences at arrival) it was great time. On the way back home I got lost again, but this time on purpose…

Dar una vuelta

Ya tengo asumido de que si salgo a dar una vuelta con la moto no debo establecer tiempo ni marcar una ruta, al final no voy a seguirlo…

Partiendo de esta premisa, después de ver las carreras por la tele y que mi compañero de ruta me avisara de que no pudiera salir, me preparé y me fui.

No había conducido ni 10 minutos cuando he pensado ‘voy a girar por aquí que no he ido nunca’, esto me ha llevado a carreteras que no conocía y cuando una de ellas terminaba en una carretera con más transito o principal tomaba el primer desvío que viese.

I’ve assumed that if I go for a ride with the motorbike I shouldn’t Schedule times or plan a route, at the end I’m not going to follow any of it…

Starting from that, after watching the races on tv and my route partner told me he wasn’t coming, I got ready and left.

I hadn’t ride for 10 minutes when I thought ‘let’s turn this way I’ve never been there’, this took me to roads I didn’t know and when they ended in a main or busier road I left them on the next crossing.

Lo disfruté mucho, vi bastantes sitios para hacer fotos, pero quería seguir disfrutando y pararme a hacer una foto no parecía que mereciese la pena. Después de algo más de una hora acabé cerca de un castillo, me pareció buena idea para dar un paseo, con un día tan soleado, comerme un helado y fumarme un cigarrito. Una vez allí fui a mirar el móvil porque creía haber puesto una aplicación que graba por dónde has ido, velocidades medias y demás; lo había hecho todo menos pulsar el botón de empezar, así que me temo que tendré que intentar volver a hacer el recorrido…

I enjoyed it a lot, saw lots of good spots for photos, but I wanted to keep enjoying and stopping to make a photo seem worthless. After a bit more than an hour I ended near a castle, it looked as a good idea to go for a walk, with such a sunny day, have an ice cream and smoke a cigarette. Once there I looked the phone because I thought I put an app that records where you’ve been, speeds and more; I set up everything right but didn’t press the start button, so I’m afraid I’ll have to try to re-do the route…

Después de esto decidí volver, más o menos… Intentando ir hacia el norte pero tomando cruces aleatoriamente. Pase por áreas dónde estuve haciendo el entrenamiento Bike Safe con la policía, buenas carreteras con bonitas curvas de camino a casa. Finalmente llegué a casa y dejé la moto a la puerta por si acaso luego usaba, después de cenar baje para ponerle la funda y me llevé una pequeña sorpresa, pinchazo.

After this i decided to go home, sort of… Trying to go north but taking crossings at random. I went through road I went when I was with the Bike Safe training with the police, good roads with nice corners on the way home. Finally I arrived home and left the bike on the drive way just in case I’d use it later, after dinner when down to put the cover on and had a little surprise.

Un día bastante completito

Los planes vienen y van, y el de ese fin de semana se fue, así que pensando en un plan alternativo barato se me ocurrieron un par de ideas, un par de horas después ya estaba preparado.

El día comenzó pronto con la prueba de una Yamaha FZ8, la moto es muy fácil de manejar y es bastante rápida, pero el motor demasiado lineal; claro que no se pueden sacar muchas conclusiones después de media hora con atasco incluido…

Plans come and go, and that weekend’s was gone, so thinking on a cheap alternative I got a couple of ideas, a couple of hours later it was ready.

The day started early with the test of a Yamaha FZ8, the bike is quite easy to handle and quite quick, but the engine is too smooth, well you can’t get many conclusions after half an hour with traffic jam included…

Pasar por casa a coger la mochila y de nuevo a la carretera, tras 20 minutos huyendo de las carreteras principales llegué al siguiente destino, Brooklands Museum.

Si te gustan los aviones, te gustará. Es una pena que solo tengan un puñado de aviones y la mayoría están a medio camino de la restauración, pero también esta bien que estén desmontados donde puedes ver casi todo. La experiencia del Concord no es gran cosa, pero bueno para mi fue suficiente simplemente sentarme ya que no podré volar en el. Hay unos cuantos coches/motos antiguas, también algunos F1 (Jordan de 1997, Marlboro McLaren con motor Honda que Senna utilizó para ganar) y el McLaren Mereces de 2007 de Hamilton en el cual te podías montar y probar a dar una vuelta en el simulador del circuito de Brooklands (el primer circuito de carreras de UK)

Pop over home to grab the bag and hit the road again, alter 20 minutes getting away of the main road i reached my next destination, Brooklands Museum.

If you like planes, you’ll like it. It’s a shame they have just a few planes and most of them are half way through restoration, but it’s also nice to see them taken apart where you can see nearly everything. The Concord experience it is not a big deal, but well for me at least it was quite nice to just take a seat as I won’t be able to flight on it. There is some old cars/bikes, but a couple of F1 (Jordan from 1997, and Marlboro McLaren with Honda engine which Senna used to win) and a 2007 Hamilton’s McLaren Mercedes where you can jump in and have a go on the Brooklands race circuit simulator (first UK purpose racing track ever)

Después de esto, y sin mover la moto que estaba muy bien a la sombra de un árbol, tocaba el Mercedes World. No recomendaría ir de propio intento si no vas a participar en alguna experiencia. Pero es un buen complemento después de ver el Brooklands Museum pasar a dar un vistazo. Es básicamente un concesionario, gigante pero un concesionario. Tienen todos los Mercedes que están en el mercado ahora mismo y una colección de la serie E (creo) de todos los tiempos. También tienen 4 F1 y uno despedazado.

After this, and without moving the bike because it was very good at the shadow of a tree, it was time for the Mercedes World. Wouldn’t recommend going if you are not doing a driving experience. But the good thing is that you can go to the Brooklands Museum and once you’re done, pop over just to take a look. It is basically a dealership, huge but just a dealership. They have all Mercedes son sale now and a collection of the series E (I think) of all the time. They also have 4 F1 cars and another one taken apart.

Para terminar el día me fui a la piscina, luego a casa huyendo de las carreteras principales de nuevo con una divertida vuelta de 40 minutos y finalmente un par de cervezas (después de aparcar y poner la funda a la moto) al sol.

And to end the day i went to the swimming pool, later home getting away of the main roads again with a nice ride of 40 minutes and finally a couple of beers (after parking the bike and putting the cover on it) on the sun.
